Which semesters does the university accept students into the DNP program?
 The DNP program accepts students to the program in the summer term only.  Students who elect to take additional educator concentration courses may begin in spring term each year.
Can you work full-time and go to school full-time?
 Yes, most students do continue working.  If your job has demanding hours, part-time schooling is recommended.  The full-time program of study takes 12 months to complete and the part time program of study takes 24 months.
Will I need to be on campus during the program?
 Yes, students are required to be on campus one time each semester.
Is the DNP program online?
 Yes, all DNP courses are online.
Why should expert APNs go back to school to receive a DNP?
 The healthcare system and environment is continually changing.  A doctoral prepared nurse will have advanced skills to deal with clinical, organizational, economical, and leadership issues.  DNPs will be able to design health care systems and will have evidence-based science skills to positively impact health care outcomes.
Is national certification a requirement?
 No.  The master’s degree in nursing must be in an area of advanced practice (nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, or administrator)
Am I required to take the GRE or MAT?
 The Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing does not require the GRE or the MAT as evaluation criteria for admission into the DNP program.
If I take DNP coursework and additional courses in the area of nursing education, do I qualify for Nurse Faculty Loan Program support?
 Students who add four additional nurse educator courses (a total of 12 hours) will qualify for NFLP support.  NFLP is a federally funded program that can cover costs related to tuition, fees, and books.  Post graduation, students accepting NFLP funds must adhere to federal regulations related to working as a full-time nurse educator in academe in order to cancel the loan award.  Additional information related to NFLP can be found by clicking on the following link:  http://www.hrsa.gov/grants/nflp/
What computer skills are required for students in the program?

Students enrolled in DNP coursework must possess the computer skills required to complete the following technology tasks:

  • Launch and operate a web browser, such as internet explorer, Firefox, or Safari
  • Bookmark frequently used web pages
  • Download and upload files
  • Download and/or install software applications
  • Operate a USB headphone and microphone
  • Save files to hard drive or portable flash memory
  • Access email account; send and receive emails and attachments
  • Create and save Word documents and PowerPoint presentations
  • Conduct online research using available databases and search engines, evaluate the credibility of online information, and correctly cite sources.
