The Samford University communications workshop scheduled for this Thursday
(SEPT. 16) has been canceled.
According to Dr. David Shipley, chair of Samford's department of journalism
and mass communication, the decision to cancel the event was based on concerns
related to the projected path of Hurricane Ivan.
Several local broadcasters who were scheduled to lead workshop sessions canceled on Monday due to weather-related news assignments, said Shipley.
Concern for the safety of the 200-plus high school students who would be traveling to campus also factored into the decision to cancel this year's event.
