Community Service Program
**NEW**
The Career Development Center and Financial Aid are hosting together
a NONPROFIT FAIR where you may meet some of the particpating agencies
on Thursday, September 11, 2008, 9:30 am-12:00 pm at Ben Brown Plaza
(Pete Hanna Center if it rains).
This fair is not only for Federal Work Study students,
but for those who wish to volunteer. If you are interested in a job
at the Fair, please make sure you find Kimberly Whitfield (Financial
Aid) at the Fair so that you can complete the correct paperwork after
making sure the nonprofit organization or public agency qualifies to
receive a FWS student; Mrs. Whitfield will make sure you qualify as
a FWS student. Not all agencies or students qualify.
The Community
Service Program offers opportunities of employment to students who
wish to work for a local Nonprofit Organization or Public Agency
or as a reading/math tutor for local elementary schools through
the America Reads & Counts Program. VIEW

The mission of the America Reads Program*
is to ensure that every child can read well and independently by the
end of the third grade. The mission of the America Counts
Program is to help students through the ninth grade in developing
and building strong mathematical skills. FWS job opportunities
are given to qualified Samford University students who will be trained
and placed in a local over-the-mountain, rural, or inner city school
