SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS


UNDERGRADUATE scholarships and grants are available from a variety of federal programs, as well as from various departmental, independent and private resources. These funds are categorized as either need-based or non-need-based.

NEED-BASED

These scholarships and grants are awarded to students based on financial need as demonstrated through the information obtained from the FAFSA and the availability of the following funds. The FAFSA must be filed by the priority date to ensure eligibility for the endowed and departmental scholarships.

  • Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)*
  • Federal SMART Grant*
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
  • Samford University Endowed Scholarships
  • Samford University Departmental Scholarships

 

NON-NEED-BASED

These scholarships and grants are awarded to students based on specific criteria set by each program. The FAFSA is not a requirement for these funds.
Merit-Based Scholarships
These are awarded to entering freshmen through the Office of Admission. For more information, please visit the Office of Admission. Returning students may also wish to seek a merit or academic scholarship from their specific program of study/major.
 
Minister Dependent Scholarships
These are available to dependents of an ordained minister employed by a church or agency in the Southern Baptist Convention. Click here for the form.
 
Ministerial Scholarships
These are available to Southern Baptist students preparing for the ministry. The award is based on an interview and recommendation from the Minister to the University, (205) 726-2825. Students receiving the Ministerial Scholarship are not eligible for the A. Earl Potts Scholarship and the Alabama Student Grant.
 
Board of Aid Scholarships
These are available to ministerial students who are Alabama residents and members of an Alabama Baptist church. The award is based on an interview conducted by the Board of Aid Committee. More information is available from the Minister to the University, (205) 726-2825.
 
A. Earl Potts Scholarships
These are available to entering freshmen who are members of an Alabama Baptist church and live in Alabama. Click here for the form.
 
Alabama Student Grants
These are available to undergraduate students who have lived in Alabama for 12 months or longer and do not hold a bachelor's degree. Those planning to enter a Christian vocation do not qualify. The amount awarded will depend on enrollment status and annual funding from the state. Click here for the form.
