Important Orientation Information

Deadline for Registration+

After you have paid your deposit for admission, a postcard will be mailed to you with information about online registration. Look for your postcard the first week in April. Be sure to register at least two weeks prior to the Orientation session you wish to attend, the sooner the better. The Orientation sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive confirmation of the session you will attend by mail. If you have questions, please call the Office of Admission at 1-800-888-7218.

Expenses

The cost for attending Orientation is approximately $175 for entering freshmen. This includes payment for housing, meals, and materials for both Orientation in June and Connections in August. Registration is online and payment must be made with a MasterCard or Visa. Parents must pay for their meals in the cafeteria, but there is no registration fee to attend.

Arrival and Departure

Check in at Orientation is between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on the first day of each session. Orientation will conclude by approximately 3:00 p.m. on the second day. Orientation staff will be in both registration locations to greet and assist you. Follow the directional signs to the registration locations from the main gate.

Samford ID and Motor Vehicle Registration

While at Orientation, freshmen will have their Samford ID made and purchase their vehicle registration decal. All vehicles must have a decal affixed by the second day of classes, August 26, 2008. Decals may be ordered online from campus safety and picked up at orientation.

Lodging for Parents

All students, including those from the Birmingham area, are required to live on campus during their Orientation session (Area Hotels).

Meals

Four meals are provided for the students for the two-day session, beginning with lunch on the first day and ending with lunch on the second day. Parents will be responsible for the cost of their meals in the cafeteria during Orientation. Payment can be with cash or credit card. Cost for meals: Breakfast $5, Lunch $6.25 and Dinner $7.75, all you can eat.

What to Bring

Bring comfortable, casual clothes and comfortable shoes. Students will need to bring towels, sheets, blanket and pillow for a single bed, bath supplies and an alarm clock. When packing, remember that the dorm room is bare with only a bed and mattress.

Student Health Services

Samford University requires all students to submit an Immunization Record.  The completed form is due before August 1, 2008 and is considered delinquent if not received in its entirety within two weeks of the first day of class.  The record must be signed by a health-care provider or include a health department stamp.  Failure to submit this documentation within two weeks of the first day of class will result in a $150 (nonrefundable) fine and a registration hold on your record. 

In addition to the Immunization Record, all undergraduate students living in university housing are required to submit the Residence Life Health Form.  The necessary physical examination and laboratory work must be within 12 months of submission and will be accepted only on the Residence Life Health Form provided.  The due date for submission of a completed Residence Life Health Form and Immunization Record for undergraduate students living in university housing is August 1.  All students living on campus must meet these requirements. Please note that if you are a student-athlete, your athletics physical will not be accepted in lieu of this document.  Students will not be permitted to take up occupancy in the residence halls until the Residence Life Health Form and Immunization Record have been received in their entirety.
