Alpha Lambda Delta, known as ALD, is a national honor society to acknowledge the achievements of students in their first year of undergraduate studies as they work towards a bachelor's degree.
What are the membership requirements?
Alpha Lambda Delta membership is open to all freshmen who meet the academic qualifications. Students must be registered for a full course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and must rank in the top 20 percent of their freshman class. The minimum scholastic average required for membership is a grade exactly halfway between the two highest grades given by the school (i.e., 3.5 or above 4.0 scale). Eligibility may be based on grades of the first full curricular period (i.e., semester, trimester, quarter, or term) or on the the cumulative average of the first year in college.
Once initiated, the student becomes a lifetime member of Alpha Lambda Delta. Members may remain active in the chapter throughout college. Offices are held by members while they are sophomores.
National dues are $20, which pays for the national lifetime membership to ALD. However, in addition to the national dues, there are local chapter dues that are used to pay for operating expenses.
Upon initiation, a member will receive a membership certificate, a charm or lapel pin, and a copy of the national magazine, The Flame.
Being a member of ALD is first and foremost an honor. It is one of the oldest and most respected honor societies in the nation, and is recognized as a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. ALD strives to encourage superior academic achievement, not only in the first year of college, but throughout the college career. As a member, you are also eligible to compete for national academic scholarships.
