Dance Minor Master Class Registration Form: April 6, 2013

High school juniors, seniors, and transfer students interested in pursuing the dance minor at Samford are invited to be our guests on campus for the weekend of our annual dance concert. On Saturday, April 6, 2013, students will have the opportunity to meet Coordinator of Dance Lisa Gibbs through a ballet master class, meet their future classmates, audition for acceptance to the dance minor, and attend the dance concert. Students interested in attending this free event can register by completing the form located on the link at the top of the page. Registration will be open until Monday, April 1, 2013.
Students participating in the master class should arrive in the lobby of Harrison Theatre at 8:30 a.m. central time in their dance attire. Girls should wear pink tights, black leotard, and ballet slippers, and have their hair secured away. A skirt is optional. Boys should wear black tights or black jazz pants and a white t-shirt and black ballet shoes. Long sleeves and sweat pants, or other "warmies", are okay to wear for the first 15 minutes of class. Please do not wear jewelry. Class will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Students who would be enrolling at Samford in the fall 2013 term have the option to audition for acceptance to the dance minor as part of the day's events. (High school juniors should wait until their senior year to audition for official acceptance to the dance minor.) Students should prepare a solo in jazz, modern, or ballet lasting 90 seconds to 2 minutes maximum; the solo should include the following elements:
Jazz: double or triple turn, split leap, jazz walks
Modern: falls to the floor, double attitude leap, modern runs
Ballet: double or triple pirouette, grand jete, balance in arabesque
Students should bring their own music as an audio file on an iPod or another device that can be hooked up to speakers through a headphone jack that will be provided for you. If you have questions about bringing your own music, please contact Lisa Gibbs at legibbs@samford.edu.
Costumes are optional for the dance minor audition.

8:30 Check-in for all students (Harrison Theatre Lobby, building number 8 on the above campus map)
9:00 Ballet master class (Harrison Theatre, building number 8)
10:30 Optional auditions for acceptance to the dance minor (for students enrolling at Samford in fall 2013 only; high school juniors should wait until their senior year to audition for official acceptance to the dance minor)
11:30 Optional lunch in the Caf (University Center, building number 52)
Students will receive complimentary lunch tickets for themselves and one guest at check-in. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased at the door to the Caf.
7:30 Momentum dance concert (Harrison Theatre, building number 8)
Students will receive complimentary tickets for themselves and one guest for either the Friday evening or Saturday evening dance concert at 7:30. Additional tickets may be requested via the registration form located at the top of this page. These additional tickets will be placed under the student's name at the Harrison Theatre Box Office so that families can purchase them before the concert. The Box Office will open at 6:30 p.m. the night of both shows.
