Biographical Information

 

Sallie Vines White graduated magnacum laude from Anderson University in 1982, with a B.A. in MusicEducation and Psychology and “with honors” in psychology. In 1985, she receivedher M.M.E. in Music Education from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN whereshe graduated “with distinction”.

Sallie is an active performeron all the woodwind instruments. She has played engagements with Stevie Wonder,Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Andy Williams, Joan Rivers, Ray Charles, Linda Eder, theBill Gaither Trio and many others. She has performed as a musician in over 100theatre productions in the state of Alabama. Sallie has played numerousengagements with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra on saxophone. She plays leadalto in the Superjazz Big Band, and tenor saxophone in the Cahaba SaxophoneQuartet. She toured for several years in various groups including Bridge, theBill Gaither Trio, and college groups performing in 47 states and 17 countries.In addition to her performing and her full-time teaching position, Mrs. Whitehas also taught Saxophone and/or Jazz Ensemble part time at several localuniversities including Samford University, Birmingham Southern, UAB, andMontevallo.

Sallie Vines White teachesfull-time at Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama. Mrs. White has beenteaching in the Hoover City School System since 1990. Prior to that time shetaught for 5 years in the Bessemer City School System.

She teaches the award-winningHoover High School First Edition Jazz Band, Concert Band 1, and AP Music Theory.She also is an associate director with the marching band.  Sallie loves sharing her love of musicon a daily basis with the young people she teaches. In 2003, she was honored byhaving the Hoover High School Yearbook dedicated to her by the students. In2004, she was awarded an Outstanding Jazz Educator Award by the National BandAssociation and received the Outstanding Music Alumni Award for 2004 byAnderson University.

Sallie is a member of IAJE, MENC,ABA, AEA, and AFM Local 256-733. Mrs. White is currently the president for theAlabama Chapter of IAJE.Sallie is married to Noah andhas three grown children, and four grandchildren.
