Lyric soprano ChristinaVillaverde, has dazzled audiences with her full rich tone and vivacious stageportrayals. Ms. Villaverde made her professional debut as Rosalinda in DieFledermaus with Light Opera Works in Evanston, Illinois. As a member of theFlorida Grand Opera Young Artist Studio, she made her mainstage debut with thecompany in Massenet’s Manon and alsoportrayed the role of Berta in IlBarbiere di Siviglia. She wonrecognition for her moving interpretation of the title character in CarlisleFloyd’s Susannah for the 50thAnniversary Performance of its debutwiththe Florida State Opera, under direct tutelage of the composer himself. Other major roles include Nedda in IPagliacci, Musetta in Labohème, Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni,Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito, Romilda in Xerxes and Cleopatrain Giulio Cesare. Otherprominent companies include Lyric Opera of Chicago, Asheville Lyric Opera andOpera Nova (San Juan, Costa Rica).
A sought-after recitalist, Ms.Villaverde specializes in Spanish repertoire and performed throughout Costa Rica in 2011 as a guestsoloist after being awarded the Costa Rican Intercultural Recital Tour byFlorida State University and Centro Cultural of Costa Rica. Ms. Villaverde was also invited to participate in theBarcelona Festival of Song in the summer of 2009. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from theUniversity of Miami, a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the FloridaState University College of Music and is currently completing Doctorate Degree inVocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy at the Florida State University College ofMusic, where she studies with renowned tenor and eminent scholar StanfordOlsen.
During her career, Ms. Villaverde has worked with acclaimed sopranoDiana Soviero, renowned stage directors Bernard Uzan and Tito Capobianco, andhas performed under the direction of Maestros Stewart Robertson, Ivan Törzs andTimothy Myers.
