The Theatre Department is housed in the newly renovated Bonnie Bolding Swearingen Hall on the south west corner of the quad. Swearingen Hall contains the Harrison Theatre, Bolding Studio, classrooms, scene shop, costume shop and storage, and design studio, as well as faculty offices. Most theatre productions are mounted on the stage of the Ben F. Harrison Theatre, a proscenium-thrust arrangement that seats 288. Opened in 1976, this theatre features a 33-foot revolve, ample wing space, and one of the largest scene paint decks in the state. The Harrison Theatre was fully updated during the summer of 2006. For rental information, contact Renee Butcher at recooper@samford.edu.
The Bolding Studio, dedicated on October 14, 2006, formerly was known as the Recital Hall. This room was renovated during the summer of 2006 and is currently used for plays, voice and instrumental recitals, lectures, and as a classroom for subjects ranging from choir to choreography. The room has new lighting and a control booth, and the stage can be lit for both plays and recitals. |
