Steve Jones holds a Ph.D. in finance from The University of Cincinnati (1997), an MBA from Vanderbilt University (1987), and a BA from Huntingdon College (1985). He is an Associate Professor of Finance at Samford University, where he has been a member of the faculty since the fall of 2001. From 1997-2001 Jones taught at Auburn University Montgomery (AUM). At both Samford and AUM, his primary areas of teaching have been in corporate finance and personal finance. In addition to teaching in these areas, Jones also has developed two new courses for the Samford finance curriculum: Financial Institutions (for undergraduate students) and Behavioral Finance (for graduate students).

At Samford’s Brock School of Business, Jones currently serves as chair of the Faculty Development Committee, faculty advisor and President of the school’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, and faculty advisor to the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. He also has served on the school’s Promotion and Tenure Committee, and has previously chaired its Graduate Education Process Committee and its Scholarships and Awards Committee. In April 2004 and again in April 2008, Jones received the School of Business’ annual Excellence in Teaching award.

Jones served with Dr. Jennings Marshall as co-chair of the 2005, 2006, and 2007 Teacher Training Programs for the Academy of Economics and Finance, an academic organization whose membership includes individuals from over 30 U.S. states and over a dozen foreign countries. In February 2007, Jones was elected as a Director by the Academy’s membership; in February 2008, he was elected 2nd Vice President. While teaching at AUM, Jones served for slightly over three years as co‑editor of The Southern Business and Economic Journal.

Jones has been interviewed by a number of media outlets, including National Public Radio, The Birmingham News, and local television stations NBC-13 and Fox-6. His research has been published in several journals, including most notably the Journal of Financial Planning, the Journal of Economics and Finance, and the Journal of Real Estate Research.

Steve’ wife, Julibeth, is an audiologist in private practice. Steve and Julibeth merely pay the mortgage on a home that is, from all appearances, owned by their two extremely spoiled cats.

About a year ago, Steve concluded a 9-year stint as assistant coach to his father’s middle school girls basketball team at Montgomery Academy in Montgomery, Alabama. His chief duties in this position included complaining about the officiating, reminding the girls on the team to keep their hands up on defense, and attempting to discourage players’ parents from offering advice to the head coach.
