Undergraduate Scholarships

The School of Business does not offer any scholarships for incoming freshmen or transfers. After a student accumulates 32 credit hours and attains a 3.0 overall GPA, then the Undergraduate Office of the School of Business will send a letter and application for scholarship. The scholarships are awarded in late Spring semester to be applied to the next academic year's tuition.

For the 2006-07 academic year, the School of Business awarded $61,700.00 in scholarships. Below is a sampling of the 2006-07 awards given to our outstanding students:

Alton P. Barr Scholarship - In 1989, the children of Mr. and Mrs. Alton P. Barr created a scholarship fund in honor of their parents, both of whom attended Howard College (now Samford University). Mr. Barr also served as a trustee of Howard College. The awards committee selects recipients who have strong academic credentials and professional promise.

James C. Lee, Jr. Scholarship - Buffalo Rock established this scholarship to be awarded annually in honor of James C. Lee, Jr. The scholarship is awarded to currently enrolled students in the School of Business.

Cook's Pest Control Scholarship - This gift was given to the School of Business to assist four deserving students. These students will be chosen by the committee not only for their academic excellence but their contributions in the classroom and potential for success in the business world.

Hovater Family Scholarship - This scholarship was established by Rod and Paula Hovater who are both Samford graduates as well as their son, Russell. It is their desire to assist deserving students who are excelling in the classroom and hold great promise for the future.

Mary Ann Hocutt Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was funded by the School of Business faculty and staff and friends and family of Dr. Mary Ann Hocutt as a memorial of her service to Samford University. Dr. Hocutt was a popular teacher and respected colleague in the marketing faculty of the School of Business until her death in 2004.

Graduate Scholarships

Russell Stanley Scholarship - Students enrolled in the MBA elective course, Entrepreneurship, compete for a $1,000 scholarship named for a graduate of the MBA program who died suddenly in 1997. Russell was a great advocate of Samford's entrepreneurship focus.

Chris Morgan Scholarship - Chris Morgan was a MBA student when he passed away in 1998. A scholarship fund established in his name helps selected students meet tuition expenses.

Other scholarship money may be available from time to time. Current and prospective students should make scholarship inquiries at the Graduate Studies Office. MBA Web Site
