Biographical Information

 Darin White (Ph.D. in marketing, The University of Alabama), Professor of Marketing, is founder and coordinator of the Sports Marketing program in the Brock School of Business at Samford University. His professional interests include corporate strategy in sports, sports marketing, sports sponsorship,branding in sports, athlete endorsements and fan behavior. Darin’s extensive background in college coaching, scholarly work, and professional engagement in the business side of the sports industry makes him uniquely positioned to lead the Sports Marketing program.

Darin is a go-to source for media seeking insights into sports business,and his comments on the industry have appeared in numerous media outlets including USA Today Newspaper and National Public Radio on topics ranging from the World Cup, sports celebrity sponsorship in the NBA and PGA, the commercial aspects of mega sporting events in relation to NASCAR, USTA and Indy Car,foreign expansion strategies of the English Premier League, projected impact of BCS changes on College Football, and the future growth of leagues such as the MLS, NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA.

Darin is an accomplished and respected teacher and coach who seeks to put students first. He was named Men’s College Coach of the Year by Adidas and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NAIA south region). Two years earlier he led the Union University bulldog men’s college soccer team to a NCCAA national championship. In 2012, he was named Brock School of Business Faculty Member of the Year for Undergraduate Teaching. He was also awarded the United States of America Department of Homeland Security Certificate of Recognition.

Considered a leading authority on sports marketing, Darin currently serves on the Editorial Review Board for three journals: Sports, Business & Management; International Journal of Sports Marketing & Sponsorship; Journal of Business Ethics. He has authored more than 50 articles and conference papers on a variety of marketing topics in publications such as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Ethics, European Journal of Marketing,Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, Journal of Strategic Marketing and others. He has also been an American Marketing Association Consortium Fellow and was named Brock School of Business Outstanding Scholar in 2011. 

Among his other research and consultancy activities, Darin has worked with numerous organizations involved in sport including Major League Soccer, NASCAR, Manchester United, AON, Chelsea, PGA, Fox Soccer Channel, Bruno Event Team, University of Georgia Athletic Department, Georgia Tech Athletic Department, Eurosport, CSE Sports, World Soccer Shop, Indy Car, SportsPlus Superstores, Rush Soccer, Dreamland Holdings, BBVA Compass and Tienda Futbol Mundial.

Along with traveling the world to play and watch games, Darin has been involved in almost every level of U.S. youth soccer, as a coach, referee and parent. Darin has frequently served his local community by donating his expertise in consultation to local school boards, the Performing Arts Council,and private secondary educational institutions. He and his wife, Laura, have served the community by teaching parenting classes to young couples and have led the Children’s Heart Foundation Parent Support Group. They live in the Birmingham area with their children Daniel, Corey, Avery, Bethany, Hannah, Abigail and John.
