Nina Miglionico

Nina Miglionico ’33 served as president of the national Association of Women Lawyers and served on the U.S. President’s Commission on the Status of Women. She was the first woman elected to the Birmingham City Council, which she served for 22 years through some of the key years of the Civil Rights Era. A longtime champion of civil rights for women and minorities, she defied the Ku Klux Klan on many occasions, including in her vote to desegregate Birmingham’s city parks. Nina Miglionico
