Samford Community

At Samford University you’ll find the personal relationships of a small college with the dynamic academic, cultural, and athletics resources of a major university. Academics

Rigorous academics are central to Samford University’s mission, and you will be nurtured to become an independent thinker and lifelong learner. Samford offers a challenging curriculum and a rich diversity of exciting academic experiences through 138 majors, minors and concentrations in 26 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Students benefit from supportive and accomplished faculty, and it is easy to develop a rapport with your instructors. Special programs, such as undergraduate student research, international studies and University Fellows, enhance the academic experience for qualified students.

Campus Life

There is always something going on at Samford from sponsored activities to just hanging out with friends. You can get involved with any of more than 125 social, service and professional organizations; compete and play in one of the largest college intramural programs anywhere; workout in the Pete Hanna Center; relax in Harry’s for a Thursday night performance; join in worship, Bible study, and community service; capture the thrill of NCAA division I athletics; or enjoy an array of cultural activities such as theatre, ballet, lectures and concerts. This is an invaluable part of your total higher education experience.

Service Opportunities

Students volunteer for Habitat for HumanityYou will discover that the Samford community is devoted to serving others. That’s part of our Christian mission. In fact, 85% of a recent graduating class reported that they regularly participated in community service or volunteer work. Many of these opportunities also include faculty and staff. At Samford you will get to know many people who are deeply committed to making a difference in the world. From reaching out to inner city children or communities trapped in rural poverty, in Alabama and around the globe, Samford people make the world a better place.

Meaningful Traditions

Any family or community is enriched and affirmed by holding and keeping traditions across generations. The Samford University family is proud of our history and tradition as the 87th oldest university in the United States. From large university-wide celebrations like Homecoming and the fierce competition of Step Sing to small personal traditions like rubbing Major Davis’ nose for luck, we cling to our red and blue and cheer for our bulldogs.
