A Letter from the Dean
The faculty members of Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education strive to be the best on a national level in teaching, scholarship and service to prepare outstanding graduates who are successful in their respective fields of study. We make ever effort to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve academically, emotionally, spiritually, socially and professionally. We also encourage them to become more involved in service and global opportunities so that they can make a positive impact on the world.
Within our school there are three dynamic departments which recently have experienced changes in their academic name and structure all prompted by the desire to better engage our students in their professional fields of study, in the community, and with our constituents.
- Family Studies has become the Department of Human Development and Family Life Education. Majors within this department include undergraduate programs in Family Studies, Family Studies with a Concentration in Child Development Education and the possible addition of a master’s degree in marriage and family in the near future.
- Teacher Education is now the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Programs housed under this departmental umbrella include two undergraduate programs: the ESEC program -- early childhood education/special education /elementary/collaborative and the Secondary Education undergraduate program for students who wish to major in subjects taught in high schools. Graduate programs include two Fifth-Year Non-Traditional programs in Elementary and Secondary Education along with online offerings for Gifted Master’s program in fall 2013, Elementary Master’s and Teacher Leader program at the educational specialist level.
- Graduate programs offered in the Department of Educational Leadership include Instructional Leadership at the master’s and educational specialist level along with new online offerings for the Doctorate in Educational Leadership during the fall 2013. In addition, a new Non-Certified Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership will be offered online during 2014.
I wish to thank the many alumni, friends and supporters who have invested in our school over the years. It is an exciting time for us and your many contributions -- whether through active involvement, community networking, or financial assistance -- have given us a burst of energy and enthusiasm needed to continue moving forward.
Dr.Jeanie Box, Dean
