Summer Teacher Education Workshop
Please join us Tuesday, June 11 for a great day of professional development! Participants will gain insight in breakthrough PreK-6 teaching methods shared by award-winning educators and receive 5 hours of professional development.
The workshop will be from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. with a break for lunch 12 p.m.- 1 p.m.

Dr. Marquita Davis
Dr. Marquita Furness Davis was appointed by Governor Robert Bentley as the Director of Finance for the state of Alabama. In her role as Director of Finance, she serves as the CFO for the state of Alabama and advisor to the Governor and Legislature. Prior to her appointment, Dr. Davis served as the Commissioner of the Department of Children's Affairs under Governor Bentley and former Governor Bob Riley. Earlier, she served as the Director of the Office of School Readiness. Before she became the Director of the Office of School Readiness, Dr. Davis was the Deputy Director of Child Development Services at JCCEO (Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity).
Dr. Stephen Chew
Dr. Stephen Chew has been a professor and chair of psychology at Samford since 1993. Trained as a cognitive psychologist, one of his primary research areas is the cognitive basis of effective teaching. He is a recognized authority on teaching research, theory and practice. He has received local and national awards for the quality of his teaching. He is a leader in the scholarship of teaching and learning. His research interests include the use of examples in teaching, the tenacious misconceptions that students bring with them into the classroom and the role of questions in learning.
