The Athletic Training program prepares students in the major tasks comprising the role of a certified athletic trainer. These tasks include:
• Prevention of athletic injuries
• Recognition, evaluation and immediate care of athletic injuries
• Rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries
• Health care administration
• Professional development and responsibility
In addition to athletic training studies, the program contains relevant courses, such as anatomy, physiology, psychology and nutrition. This major prepares students to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination to become a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) for jobs in high schools, universities or rehabilitation facilities. Samford University has received undergraduate curriculum accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

The Samford University Athletic Training Education Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program has met the nationally-recognized Standards for Entry-Level Athletic Training Education that were established with support of the following sponsoring organizations: The American Academy of Family Physicians, The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Inc.
