Charges
1. Quality of Instruction and Faculty Development
The committee shall study and recommend means of improving the instructional program of the University and encouraging faculty development in teaching, research, and professional activities. Areas of attention include:
- Review of orientation of new faculty. Review of the methods of evaluation of faculty by various groups (e.g., peer reviews, student evaluations).
- Solicitation, review and prioritization of faculty proposals for internally funded research and development.
- Encouragement of faculty research.
2. Academic Administration
This committee shall study, evaluate, and bring recommendations to the faculty and/or administration concerning policies and procedures that affect the academic programs and the professional activities and areas of concern of the faculty. Such concerns include:
- Admissions and readmissions.
- Academic probation and suspension.
- Academic freedom.
- Academic calendar.
- Retention of students.
3. Scholarship and Academic Programs
This committee shall study and review policies and decisions that affect the strength and integrity of academic programs of the University and bring recommendations to the faculty and/or administration. The committee is to assume direction or make recommendations concerning the following:
- Honors Day.
- Assessment and encouragement of student scholastic achievement.
- Recommendation and interpretation of policies governing plagiarism and other instances of academic dishonesty by students.
