Update
on gender issues
Sandra
Willis reported on reactivating Women’s Advisory Council.
The Senate Executive Council met with Joe Lewis about gathering data on
hiring and salaries. Dr. Lewis
stated that data are released to two organizations (AAUP and CUPA) that have
different reporting criteria and, therefore, the statistics are difficult to
compare without compromising the privacy of individual faculty members.
The Executive Council will approach the existing Women's Advisory
committee to determine whether the committee should continue to operate or
whether a new committee should be appointed by the Faculty Senate Chair.

A motion was made and seconded.
The Faculty Senate Task Force
on Handbook Review will submit proposals as to the following during spring, 2001.
Definition of quorum
Succession of officers
Editorial matters, typographical errors
The motion passed unanimously.
David Shipley volunteered to serve with Bill Raabe
and Mark Baggett on the ad hoc committee. They
hope to have recommendations for Senate consideration at its March meeting, and
approval of the Board of Trustees during the spring.
2.
Issues
for emphasis in the Spring - Hugh Floyd
Hugh encouraged Senators to continue to make contact with constituents to keep the Senate relevant. A suggestion was made to have committee forms available on the Faculty Senate web site, either for downloading or electronic submission. There was another suggestion that committees set permanent meeting times and days so that the Elections Committee can select candidates able to meet at that time. A motion was made.
To
designate 3:00 on the 1st Friday of each month as the Senate meeting
time for 2001-2.
The motion passed unanimously.
Chairman
Floyd reported that the Provost search committee has met twice with the
recruiting company to review curriculum vitae from prospective applicants. He reported that good progress is being made in the search.
Morgan
Ponder reported that AAUP is sponsoring a roundtable discussion on searches for
administrators. Morgan will send an
e-mail announcement to all faculty later. The
date is February 22 at 3:30.
