Call for Proposals
The Samford In Mission (SIM) Grant and Samford University, encourage you to present a panel or paper at the Faith In Action Conference to be held January 12-15, 2006 in Birmingham, Alabama. This conference will bring together faculty and students from institutions of higher education to explore the role of faith in social movements of the past, present, and future.
The presentations will be organized around eight major topics:
Racial Equality
Social Justice
Community Service and Service Learning
Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development
Women’s Rights
Human Rights
International Justice
Peace Making
In addition, faculty are encouraged to present research discussing strategies for incorporating these topics into undergraduate courses. Both faculty and students will be eligible for individual and group awards for quality presentations.
What is the deadline for submitting proposals?
All proposals must be received by November 15, 2005. The Conference Advisory Committee will review all proposals and inform you of your proposal’s status by November 30, 2005. Lead presenters are responsible for forwarding all conference correspondence to their co-presenters. All accepted proposal abstracts will be made available to conference participants in the program materials.
Which session format may I use, and who is the anticipated audience?
Choose from one of the following formats:
Panel: Up to five presenters engage the audience in a dialogue or other participatory activity for 60 minutes.
Paper: Student or faculty participants present their research relating to one of the topics or their experience teaching undergraduate students in the topic area. (10-15 minutes)
Poster: Individual participants display their efforts on a 4’ by 6’ board.
How do I submit my proposal?
A complete proposal can be sent electronically via fax at (205) 726-4285, e-mail (ncbiggio@samford.edu), or by mail to Faith In Action Conference, Samford In Mission, Box 2292, Samford University, 800 Lakeshore Drive, Birmingham, AL 35229.
The proposal should consist of the following:
1. Proposal abstract (50 words maximum, subject to editing) summarizing the session’s main points, intended audience and relevance of the session to the intended audience. Accepted abstracts will be printed in the conference program.
2. Session description (500 words maximum) detailing the session’s main goals and objectives, content, relevance to and engagement of the intended audience, along with any unique features.
3. Registration Form (available online).
