Dear Mr. Hamilton:

Thank you for selecting me to interview for the counseling position open in the Career Development Center for the coming academic year. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and other members of the staff. You have an outstanding program and it would be a privilege for me to have the opportunity to work with you.

However, I must request that you withdraw my application from further consideration. I have just received an offer from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts to coordinate their Department of Career Placement. This position will give me the chance to further my future in Career Counseling. I hope to be successful in this area for many years to come.

I know you will have no trouble selecting a competent candidate to fill your opening. I do plan to return to Alabama in the future to be closer to my parents, and I hope we may be able to get together again at that time. If you have an opening at that time in my area of specialty, I would very much appreciate hearing about it.
