You must go to Computer Services to receive another copy of this. The office is located in Brooks Hall 329. Sign into the portal, click on banner tab, then Student Records. Choose the item on the menu on the left that you want information on. [top of page] Is tutoring available on campus? Tutoring is available in some departments at set times. We also keep a list of private tutors on our web site. Please click on tutoring for more information. [top of page] Sign into the portal, click on banner tab, then Student & Financial Aid link, click on View Student Information. [top of page] How do I drop and/or add a class? Contact your academic advisor for your registration pin number. Your advisor will advise you as to whether you should drop or add a class during the first week of the semester, after that time you can only drop a class. After drop/add week, you must fill out a drop/add form from your advisor. The academic calendar will give the deadlines for dropping without academic penalty.[top of page] First you should schedule an appointment to talk to the department chair or an advisor to discuss the major that you are interested in. To make it your official major, you must fill out a Change of Academic Program form and have it signed by the advisor of the major that you are changing to. The former advisor does not have to sign it. The form must be taken to Student Records for your major to be changed in the system. The department should have copies of this form in the office, if not you may pick one up in the Student Records office (Samford Hall, 2nd floor) or in the Office of Freshman Life (DBH 103). [top of page] A student that declares Undeclared as their major will take the University Core classes and General Education requirement classes. An entering freshman can stay undeclared until the spring semester of their sophomore year. Please refer to the University catalog for more information. [top of page] When is move-in day for the spring semester of 2008? Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 8:00 am. [top of page] What sizes are the beds in the residence halls? All beds are regular twin size, with the exception of Smith Hall that has XL twin. [top of page] How do I find out the dimensions of son/daughter's dorm room? The" average" room size is approximately 12' X 12'. Smith and Pittman fourth floor rooms and Vail sixth floor rooms are smaller (12' X 10' including the closet but with an additional "cubby hole" space of about 3' X 6'). Even the "average" room sizes vary and these measurements are approximate, so please be prepared to adjust your plans when you arrive and see your room. For instance, Vail hall has approximately 22 different room configurations, so hardly any room can be considered "average". Please use the 12' X 12' figure as a very general guideline only. [top of page] Is there cable access in the rooms? Cable TV is provided in each Residence Hall room. However, only one cable jack is in each room, so roommates may want to discuss bringing a TV/VCR/DVD player. [top of page] Do we have to provide our own phone and answering machine? Student rooms are provided with phone jacks and computer (high-speed internet) ports. Local calling service is provided. Students need to bring a telephone and answering machine. If a student desires long distance calling access on his phone, he will need to contact Telecommunication Services for the purpose of obtaining a long distance access code. [top of page] What size refrigerator/microwave can we bring? You will receive a list of items you may bring at orientation and when you receive your room assignment confirmation in August. However, items such as small refrigerator, microwave, TV, and stereo are permitted. You should remember, however, that space is limited. You should coordinate with your roommate and not bring two of each of the above items. Freshmen are allowed to have personal cars at Samford. [top of page] What is my Samford mailing address? You can find your Samford mailing address by visiting the post office web site and following the directions. While there please note that your mailing address is different if a package is delivered to you by UPS. [top of page] Who do I call when I have questions? Please refer to our University Resources page for a list of needs and the correct person to call to find the answer. [top of page] Where can a student cash checks on campus? Students can cash checks in the University Bookstore for no more than $50/day with their Samford ID. Yes, there is an AmSouth Bank ATM in the food court. Other banks can use the ATM for a fee. How do we add money to the Samford ID card to use on campus? A parent may call the University Bookstore at 205.726.2834 and use a credit card to add money to the student's ID card. Also, the parent or student can go to the front desk of the bookstore and write a check to add to the card. What about buying books, can I use my ID card to buy books?
