All freshmen are required to take the core curriculum at Samford. All students should be registered for UCCP 101 in their first semester. They should also register for UCCA 101 or UCCA 102, depending on their placement.
Cultural Perspectives (UCCP)
Cultural Perspectives is a two-semester introduction to the humanities. Faculty from English, history, political science, geography, and philosophy collaborated to design a course that would introduce freshmen to their cultural heritage and challenge them to think beyond that heritage--to other times, other cultures, other perspectives. Honors Program
The Honors Program supplements and complements the regular curriculum of Samford University. Selected students take honors sections of university core curriculum, as well as general education classes their first two years. They then take a junior seminar, and climax their honors experience with a senior honors thesis. Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society
Alpha Lambda Delta membership is open to all freshmen who meet the academic qualifications. Students must be registered for a full course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and must rank in the top 20 percent of their freshman class. The minimum scholastic average required for membership is a grade exactly halfway between the two highest grades given by the school (i.e., 3.5 or above 4.0 scale). Eligibility may be based on grades of the first full curricular period (i.e., semester, trimester, quarter, or term) or on the cumulative average of the first year in college.
