Mentoring

Program

The Success Mentoring Program is an excellent way to meet one on one with a faculty or staff mentor thus building a relationship. Mentors help students plan for academic success at Samford. The purpose of the weekly meeting is to hold the students accountable to their weekly goals and responsibilities. Proper time and calendar management are keys to an academically successful semester. "Think ahead, Plan ahead, Be ahead, Stay ahead" could very well be the motto for Success mentoring.

Benefits of the mentorship program include:

  • setting and implementing individual goals for academic success

  • help with time and stress management

  • referrals to appropriate resources at Samford to help the student succeed in a variety of areas

  • discovering techniques and tools to achieve the student's academic potential

  • learn to make the most of your experience at Samford

This program is mandatory in the fall for freshman students that have been conditionally admitted to Samford for the fall semester and in the spring for students placed on academic warning during the fall semester. Many of our students choose to continue in the program their second semester when their grades improve.

It is also open to any freshman student that wants to be a part of this wonderful opportunity. Dana Basinger, Director of Freshman Life, pairs the students with one of our Success Mentors. For more information contact Dana Basinger.
