The London Study Centre: Information
and Tour
Daniel House: The London Study Centre
First occupied by Samford students in the fall of 1984, Daniel
House--the Samford University London Study Centre--was built in
1874-75 as a fashionable single-family, terraced home in a suburban
area west of central London. Though built in the Victorian period,
it is Georgian in style. Through its long history, the house and
its usage have reflected changing times in the neighborhood. By
the 1930s, the large homes were being divided into "flats,"
usually with one family or occupant per floor. By the 1940s, the
property was in use as a rooming house and in the 1960s was converted
to a small, family-owned bed and breakfast hotel. Samford University
purchased the property in 1984, and today Daniel House serves as
home and classroom to Samford students and faculty participating
in the university's London Programs.
