How Underwriting Works

Although WVSU is a non-commercial and non-profit station, we are allowed to defray operational costs through business underwriting of our programming. Technically called a "donor acknowledgement," businesses who make financial contributions to the station can be recognized in the form of a non-promotional announcement that gives the company's name, services offered, location and contact information.

How Underwriting Works

At most, we break from the music only twice per hour to recognize underwriters - no more than two at a time. That means listeners can enjoy about 56 minutes of music each hour, then hear an underwriting message that's not lost in a clutter of annoying commercials. Our listeners - many of whom also make financial contributions to WVSU - appreciate those businesses who help keep us on the air and keep interruptions at a minimum.

Based on a 2006 survey by Arbitron Inc., WVSU has more than 12,000 unique listeners each week. We offer a diverse demographic, with a heavy concentration of listeners in south Jefferson County - including Birmingham, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Hoover and Vestavia Hills. We offer flexible underwriting packages, and will work with you to help your business get the most out of its investment with WVSU.
