Diverse Backgrounds TRADITION AND MISSION Samford University, founded in 1841, has more than of history in health education. OUR MISSION SINCE1841 Faith and Health The Center for Faith, Health and End of Life provides a model for inter-professional practice, scholarshiservice that focuses on faith, health, end of life and ethics. As part of Samford University, the College of Health Sciences is part of a dynamic, expanding institution. Not only is Samford sending students into the world, the world is sending students to Samford. College of Health Sciences students come STATES from diverse backgrounds representing 39 states and eight countries.90 years Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing was founded in 1922. McWhorter School of Pharmacy was founded in 1927. The nutrition program began in 1933. CHRISTIAN MINISTRYStudents within the College of Health Sciences have regular opportunities to participate in ministries in the Black Belt of Alabama, inner city Birmingham, Central America, South America and Africa. Students participate in numerous mission trips annually. 96% in Doctor of Nursing Practice prepares students to practice program since 2006. nursing at the highest clinical level. PASS RATE With an employment rate of 92.9% for 2012-13 graduates, the DNP program MORE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE The College of Health Sciences is committed to offering students an above-average level of clinical experience. For instance, in 2013, 9 Samford’s nurse anesthesia graduates averaged experience in 930 clinical cases, 380 more cases than required by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse AnesthesiaEducational Programs. 20 “best jobs in the U. S.” as cited by US News and World Report. More than 93 percent of students from the School of Health Professions applying to graduate and professional schools are accepted. Nutrition and Dietetics students average 97 percent on their first-time pass rate of the registered dietitian exam, compared with an 80 percent national average, and 91 percent placement into dietetic internships, compared with a 50 percent national average. POST GRADUATE 89 percent of McWhorter School of Pharmacy students pursuing post-graduate residency training matched with the program of their choice, compared to the national rate of 63 percent.
