Shift Supervisor - Campus Safety

- Duties:
The Salary Grade and Range are to be determined.
- Receive and review daily reports (incident, accident reports or any other reports prepared by the shift officer).
- Respond to assist or direct subordinate officer in all incidents of theft, vandalism and destruction of property, accidents or other significant incidents.
- Appear in an administrative hearing or other court hearing as deemed necessary.
- Conduct follow-up investigations and prepare written reports as may be required.
- Communicate effectively with the public during routine and difficult situations.
- Provide monthly in-service training for all officers.
- Perform or assist in the performance of risk assessments relating to departmental responsibilities by inspecting buildings and grounds for safety hazards.
- Assist with all University deposits, if necessary.
- Perform the duties of a Campus Safety Officer when required.
- Maintain liaison with University officials, community police and fire departments to promote the safety and security of the University.
- Provide location directions to citizens as required.
- Responsible for adequate shift coverage.
- Prepare court documents for hearings as necessary.
- Prepare monthly reports.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- This position involves considerable overtime and shift work.
- Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be twenty-one years of age.
- Must have a minimum of two years supervision experience in a law enforcement, campus and/or security operation.
- Certified or the ability to be certified by APOSTC standards with a firearm (semiautomatic or revolver), if necessary.
- Possess a current driver's license with the ability to drive an automobile, an all-terrain type vehicle and vehicles such as a utility vehicle (MULE. EZGO, etc.).
- Must be physically able to walk, stoop, run, climb several flights of stairs and climb a six foot wall or fence.
- Must be ability to successfully compete defensive tactics training to include handcuffing techniques, ASP Baton, Mace, arrest procedures and self-protection.
- Must be capable of speaking articulately to individuals and groups in English.
- Must be able to read and comprehend correspondence, manuals, journals, letters, memoranda, policies, directives and signs in English.
- Must have the ability to hear verbal communication and radio/electronic and telephone messages/signals.
- Have no felony convictions or convictions for crimes of moral turpitude.
- Have the ability to learn radio codes and terminology in order to communicate clearly.
- Must be able to work considerable overtime and shift work.
