Goals and Objectives for the Samford University Strategic Plan

Goal 4: Nurture a vibrant community of Christian faith and service

  • Objective 4.1 - Offer educational experiences that engage Christian intellectual traditions, perspectives, and viewpoints
    • Expand service and experiential learning opportunities
    • Identify and coordinate service opportunities that support our mission of faith and learning
    • Enhance support for students pursuing Christian ministry vocations
    • Provide opportunities for the Samford community for worship and prayer
    • Build alliances with organizations and communities, including partnerships with historically black congregations and Historically Black Colleges and Universities
    • Attract missionary kids through focused recruitment efforts and scholarships
    • Develop programs for the discussion of community and societal issues
    • Host events to examine Christian responses to various societal issues
    • Foster organizations and activities that have a purposefully Christian emphasis

  • Objective 4.2 - Provide programs and opportunities to support and strengthen the personal faith of students, faculty, and staff
    • Expand service and experiential learning opportunities
    • Identify and coordinate service opportunities that support our mission of faith and learning
    • Provide opportunities for the Samford community for worship and prayer
    • Host events to examine Christian responses to various societal issues
    • Foster organizations and activities that have a purposefully Christian emphasis

  • Objective 4.3 - Prepare students for values-based decision-making
    • Develop programs for the discussion of community and societal issues
    • Host events to examine Christian responses to various societal issues
    • Incorporate case studies, problem-based learning and other teaching methods that raise moral issues
    • Provide leadership in community response to issues of importance to Alabama

  • Objective 4.4 - Honor and strengthen our Baptist and Christian heritage
    • Identify and coordinate service opportunities that support our mission of faith and learning
    • Enhance support for students pursuing Christian ministry vocations
    • Provide opportunities for the Samford community for worship and prayer
    • Host events to examine Christian responses to various societal issues
    • Provide programs of study that are specifically targeted to vocations in Christian ministry
    • Foster organizations and activities that have a purposefully Christian emphasis

  • Objective 4.5 - Promote professional service, service to the university, and service to the community
    • Expand service and experiential learning opportunities
    • Educate students about national service organizations and provide the support systems needed to increase the number of students applying to such programs
    • Structure teaching loads that enhance educational experiences, enable contributions to scholarship, and promote service
    • Identify and coordinate service opportunities that support our mission of faith and learning
    • Attract missionary kids through focused recruitment efforts and scholarships
    • Incorporate the concept of philanthropic responsibility into the educational experience
    • Provide leadership in community response to issues of importance to Alabama
