Goals and Objectives for the Samford University Strategic Plan

Goal 5: Promote intercultural and international understanding

  • Objective 5.1 - Incorporate teaching approaches that acknowledge cultural differences and engage diverse perspectives
    • Expand service and experiential learning opportunities
    • Enhance the use of learning communities as a mechanism for learning and relationship building
    • Expand cross-cultural experiences for students and employees
    • Engage the Global Center in campus wide learning
    • Increase endowed funds to support international and intercultural programs
    • Educate students about national service organizations and provide the support systems needed to increase the number of students applying to such programs
    • Enhance recognition and incentives for outstanding teaching
    • Create recognition and incentives for meaningful curricular innovation
    • Improve infrastructure of international programs
    • Build alliances with organizations and communities, including partnerships with historically black congregations and Historically Black Colleges and Universities
    • Attract missionary kids through focused recruitment efforts and scholarships
    • Develop programs for the discussion of community and societal issues
    • Host events to examine Christian responses to various societal issues
    • Incorporate case studies, problem-based learning and other teaching methods that raise moral issues

    • Increase the opportunities for students to engage in research
    • Provide infrastructure for communicating research activities across the university utilizing resources including the Samford University Press

    • Celebrate and communicate institutional successes and the achievements of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni
    • Develop additional mechanisms for students to share their Samford stories
    • Assure continued access for all students, regardless of means, through a strong program of financial aid
