INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADORS
SAMFORD UNIVERSITY
2014-2015


PURPOSE: The International Ambassador position is designed to help plan and facilitate New International Student Orientation sessions. International Ambassadors help facilitate a smooth transition for incoming international students to Samford University and Birmingham.


ELIGIBILITY: Service as an International Ambassador is limited to a selected group of six (6) Samford students that meet certain criterion:

• A demonstrated desire to build lasting cross-cultural relationships
• Completed International Ambassador application
• Support of the mission and purpose of Samford University
• Outstanding character and reputation on campus
• Balanced and healthy involvement in campus activities
• Recommendation from Samford faculty of staff member
• Good academic standing with at least 3.0 GPA
• No record of major values violations
• Legally eligible to work on campus
• Fully available on campus from August 13-22, 2014


EXPECTATIONS: The International Ambassadors are positive representatives of Samford University to incoming international students. They must have an understanding of cross-cultural communication and sensitivity. International Ambassadors will have an initial meeting in May and a required reading on intercultural affairs. They will be expected to return to campus a few days before the start of orientation for preparations and training.


 

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
SAMFORD UNIVERSITY
2014-2015



PURPOSE: The International Student Leadership Council (ISLC) exists to represent and advocate the interests of the international student community at Samford. The ISLC will seek to connect international and domestic students in meaningful relationships and raise awareness of international affairs and issues.


ELIGIBILITY: Service on the ISLC is limited to Samford students that meet certain criterion:

• A demonstrated desire to build cross-cultural relationships
• A completed International Student Leadership Council application
• Support of the mission and purpose of Samford University and International Student Development.
• Outstanding character and reputation on campus
• Balanced and healthy involvement in campus activities
• Good academic standing with at least 2.5 GPA
• No record of major values violations


EXPECTATIONS: The ISLC is the primary student leadership body for international student engagement on campus. This leadership includes, but is not limited to, representing needs and concerns of students, planning events, and communicating with the Samford community. The body will have regular meetings on a monthly basis. Additional meeting may be required under certain circumstances.
