Spring 2009 Study Abroad Programs

London: Spring 2009

Dates: January 26 – May 11
Prof. Jeremy Thornton – “Capitalism, Christianity, Democracy and Empire”, 4 credits
This course will examine the development of modern democratic capitalism from Biblical to modern times.  From this we can answer many important questions such as: What causes some countries to become spectacularly wealthy while others remain impoverished? Why do living standards of some countries improve over time while others do not? How did the institutions develop that allow me to get an education, live in relative safety, and seek employment? Or most importantly, how did Donald Trump get so rich?
