Duties

The Computer Labs Technician/Night Supervisor provides technical support and assistance to the Lab Manager and supervises campus computer laboratories during afternoon/evening hours and occasional late night use.

Duties Include:

  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with the daily operation of campus computing laboratories including activities such as:
    • Scheduling operating hours for labs in response to student and faculty needs
    • Scheduling and supervising student employees
    • Ensuring adequate supplies are available in computer laboratories
    • Ensuring that all equipment and software are maintained in an operational state
    • Reporting maintenance needs to appropriate maintenance providers
  • Supervise laboratory activities during overnight hours when laboratories are scheduled to be open
  • Help establish and implement appropriate software configurations for laboratory computers
  • Assist the Lab Manager in assessing laboratory needs and responding to them
  • Provide assistance and training for laboratory patrons
  • Work with vendor representatives as needed to resolve questions/problems or to develop new technologies
  • Stay abreast of current trends in using technology in the University environment by attending conferences, professional meetings and seminars and by reading appropriate journals.¬† Incorporate those ideas gained through these activities at Samford
  • Continually enhance own technical and professional skills
  • Provide strong customer service
  • Perform additional duties as assigned¬†

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent training in a technology-related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the implementation and maintenance of computer workstations
  • Demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and self-motivation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with various operating systems including current Windows OS and Mac OS

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous computer laboratory experience
