Eleanor Clift, contributing editor of Newsweek, spoke at Samford University on September 22, 2010. Her presentation, “Women in Politics: From Suffrage to Shattering the Glass Ceiling,” examined women’s progress in politics from securing the right to vote (90 years ago) to the present. She is author of several books, including Founding Sisters and The 19th Amendment and Madam President: Shattering the Last Glass Ceiling. Ms. Clift's presentation was part of the Mann Center's continuing A. Gerow Hodges Lectures in Ethics & Leadership.
In her role at Newsweek, Ms. Clift writes on the Washington power structure, the influence of women in politics and other issues. Her column, “Capitol Letter,” is posted each Friday on Newsweek.com. Formerly Newsweek’s White House correspondent for six years, she is currently a panelist on the weekly syndicated television program, The McLaughlin Report.
Before Wednesday night's program, Dr. John Knapp spoke with Ms. Clift on the role of women in politics. Similar interviews with other thought leaders are available here.
