Better World Theatre

Students in the Brock Scholars program presented two short plays to an audience of their peers, followed by lively discussion of the issues that were identified. The performance was sponsored by the Mann Center through its new Better World Theatre initiative, which allows students to think critically about ethical issues in their field of study by acting out scenarios they are likely to encounter in the professional world (Homewood, AL). Promoting Academic Integrity at Samford

Discussions on academic integrity with students and faculty at Samford's McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Howard College of Arts and Sciences, Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing, and Brock School of Business. Dr. John Knapp and Azalea Hulbert shared findings from the 2011 Samford Survey on Academic Integrity and discussed ways to promote a culture of academic integrity within the school (Homewood, AL).

Courageous Conversations: Can We Talk About It?

Courageous Conversations: Can We Talk About It? focused on whether diverse viewpoints are welcome on Samford's campus. Guy Chmieleski, university minister at Belmont University, joined a panel of Samford students and faculty and shared his insights from a difficult situation at Belmont. Panelists included Dr. Betsy Dobbins, Dr. Dennis Sansom, Dr. Don Sandley, Katelyn Wilbanks, Josh Motta, and Kristin Boyd; Dr. John Knapp served as moderator. Visit to Pyongyang University of Science and Technology

Dr. John Knapp was on the leadership team of a delegation of scholars who visited Pyongyang University of Science and Technology in North Korea in 2011. Dr. Knapp’s presentation to graduate students and faculty was on “The University as Community of Moral Formation,” emphasizing the obligation of higher education to prepare ethical leaders who are committed to serving the common good of their people and working constructively with other leaders in global society. The project was coordinated by the Consortium for Global Education (North Korea). See photos.
