Nine Samford University music students will make their conducting debut at a concert Thursday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. in Harrison Theatre. The public is invited free of charge.
The students, each conducting in public for the first time, will lead the 55-member Samford Wind Ensemble in a program of wind band repertoire pieces.
First-time conductors are: Bryan Dilks, Chandra Hein, Laura Lynch, Keith Brandenburg, Belinda Trott, Kate Benton, Adam Truesdale, Laura Hancock and Brett Womble. Each is responsible for preparing and rehearsing the music under the supervision of Dr. Jon Remley, chair of instrumental music in Samford's School of Performing Arts.
The program will include works by composers David Holsinger, Frank Ticheli, W. Francis McBeth, Darius Milhaud, Percy Grainger, Ronald LoPresti and Claude W. Smith.
