Cambridge Old Testament Scholar To Deliver Biblical Studies Lectures

Dr. Robert Gordon, Regius Professor of Hebrew at the University of Cambridge, will deliver the Biblical Studies Lectures at Samford University's Beeson Divinity School April 13-15. He will speak each day at 11 a.m. in Hodges Chapel.

A Fellow of St. Catharine's College, Dr. Gordon has been at Cambridge since 1979. His interests include the Hebrew Bible and the ancient versions. He has published commentaries on 1-2 Samuel (1986-2003) and Hebrews (2000), a monograph on the Targum to the Twelve Prophets (1994) and an edition of the Syriac Peshitta of 1-2 Chronicles (1998).

After studying Hebrew and Aramaic at Cambridge, he took his first post in Old Testament at Glasgow University in 1969, serving there until returning to Cambridge.

Gordon was president of the Society for Old Testament Study in 2003. He is Book List editor of Vetus Testamentum and acting secretary of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament (2001-04).
