Posted on 2004-02-19 by Mary Wimberley (205) 726-2922

Thurgood Marshall and human rights is the topic of this year’s Thurgood Marshall Symposium for students at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. The public is invited to the event in the moot courtroom of Robinson law building.

Alabama circuit court judges Helen Shores Lee and Caryl P. Privett will lead the discussion. The symposium is sponsored by Cumberland’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA).

Lee, a Cumberland graduate, and Privett, a New York University School of Law graduate, are judges in the 10th Judicial Circuit.

The late Thurgood Marshall was the first black justice to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Rodrick Barge, a second-year law student from Selma, is president of the Cumberland BLSA chapter.
