Lisa Beamer to Speak At Samford May 15

Posted on 2003-04-30 by Mary Wimberley (205) 726-2922

Lisa Beamer, author of Let's Roll: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage, will speak at Samford University Thursday, May 15, at 10 a.m. in Wright Center Concert Hall. The public is invited.

Beamer is the widow of Todd Beamer, the hero of Flight 93, which was downed by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001. After being introduced to Congress and a worldwide audience by President George W. Bush, she became a national symbol of courage and strength. Since learning of the situations of children left parentless following Sept. 11, she created the Todd M. Beamer Foundation in memory of her husband's heroic acts and their shared compassion for children.

The Beamers were active members of Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro, N.J., where they were youth sponsors and Sunday School teachers. They also met regularly with a small care group for Bible study and prayer.

Beamer and her late husband are the parents of three children: sons David, four, and Drew, two, and daughter, Morgan Kay, born Jan. 9, 2002.

While in Birmingham, Beamer will also speak to a Samford Auxiliary luncheon.
