Samford University enrolled 4,440 students for the fall semester of 2003,
its largest enrollment in four years. The enrollment includes students from
44 states and foreign students from 33 countries.
School officials attribute the increase to several factors. Samford enrolled
its second largest freshman class in history (680) this fall, and increased
its retention rate of last year's freshmen to 88.53 percent compared to 80
percent last fall. The school also had increases in the number of pharmacy
and law students.
The total increase gives Samford its largest student body since 1999, when
4,494 enrolled. Last year's enrollment was 4,366.
