Authors of books on teachers and the law, children's literature and inspirational thoughts will headline this year's Samford Summer Institute for Teaching Excellence July 11-14. Some 150 teachers from throughout Alabama will attend the program, sponsored by Samford University's Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional Studies.
Speakers include University of Massachusetts professors Dr. David Schimmel and Dr. Louis Fischer, co-authors of Teachers and the Law; and University of Florida professors Carol Lynch-Brown and Carl M. Tomlinson, authors of Essentials of Children's Literature.
Colleen L. Reece and Anita Corrine Donihue, authors of A Teacher's Heart and Apples for a Teacher will also speak.
Other speakers and topics are Pete DeSisto, changing classroom management through cooperative discipline; Dr. Debi Strevy, Newbery Books and the social studies curriculum; and Eric Olson, drama and theatre in the classroom.
