The Samford University Communications Workshop for high school journalists and advisors will be held Thursday, Sept. 16.
The day-long event is co-sponsored by the Samford Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Alabama Press Association Journalism Foundation.
A morning careers panel will feature Aubrey Miller, director of travel and tourism, Southern Progress Corp.; Fran Curry, anchor/news reporter, WVTM-TV; Carole Cain, manager of human resources, Southern Progress Corp.; and Lee Walls, Jr., executive vice president, Walls Newspapers and president, Walls New Media.
Topics to be covered during the day include basic and advanced newspaper writing, advertising and staffing; sports writing, magazine writing and layout, photojournalism, broadcast reporting and sports coverage.
Registration check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. in Reid Chapel, with the careers panel to begin at 8:30 a.m. The program will conclude at 1:50 p.m. Fee is $3 per student. Advisors may attend for free. Lunch may be purchased in the Samford cafeteria or food court.
