Samford Basketball Inks Two in Early Signing Period
Samford University men's basketball coach Jimmy Tillette announced Wednesday the signing of two players for the 2000-2001 season during the first day of the early signing period.
Signing with the Bulldogs are Tyson Dorsey of Brantford, Ontario, Canada and Eddie Harper of Laurel, Miss.
Dorsey, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard, averaged 25.5 points, 4.1 assists and shot 43 percent from behind the 3-point line last season at Assumption High School. He was an Ontario Top Five All-Star and ranked the seventh-best player overall in Ontario and scored over 1,500 points his last two seasons. He selected Samford over Princeton, Yale, Brown, Siena, Central Connecticut and Belmont.
Harper, a 6-5, 175-pound guard, averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and shot 47 percent from behind the 3-point line last season at Northeast Jones High School. Harper selected Samford over Southeastern Louisiana.
Samford opens its 1999-2000 season on Monday when it hosts VASDA USA in an exhibition at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs tip-off the season on Nov. 19 when it faces St. John's in the first round of the CoSIDA Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
