Samford University's complete student body will be in place this week as fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 28. A total of about 4,500 students are expected for the upcoming semester.
A week of Welcome Back activity begins with a reggae fest and dinner on Sunday evening followed by a live outdoor concert. Other events this week for new and returning students include a dance at Sloss Furnaces on Monday evening, a movie on the quad on Wedensday and Church Day on Thursday, during which about 25 area churches introduce their programs to students.
Samford president Thomas E. Corts will address the semester-opening convocation on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Wright Center Concert Hall. His topic will be "Only to be a Survivor." The faculty winner of the Buchanan Award for Teaching Excellence will be announced.
