Posted on 2000-09-01 by William Nunnelley (205) 726-2800

Samford University ranks fifth in the South among Regional Universities in the 2001 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s selection of America’s Best Colleges. The No. 5 ranking is Samford’s highest in the 10 years it has been ranked by U.S. News. The school has been sixth for the past two years.

The rankings, announced Friday, Sept. 1, will appear in the Sept. 11 issue of the magazine, on newsstands Monday, Sept. 4.

U.S. News selects the top Regional Universities in four geographical areas–a total of 505 schools–that provide "a full range of undergraduate programs and graduate education at the master’s level." Samford offers 24 degree programs including 16 at the master’s level and above.

Rankings are based on a school’s academic reputation, freshman retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate and alumni giving rate.
