Trustees Approve 2012-13 Tuition, Fees

Posted on 2012-02-17 by Philip Poole (205) 726-2823

Samford University’s trustee executive committee approved the 2012-13 tuition and fee schedule during a Feb. 15 meeting.

Undergraduate tuition for full-time students will be $12,285 per semester, a 4.9 percent increase over the 2011-12 tuition of $11,711. Tuition for the undergraduate evening degree program actually will drop slightly to $350 per credit hour.

Law school tuition for full-time students will be $17,938 per semester, and pharmacy tuition will increase to $15,895. Tuition for full-time students in Samford’s Beeson Divinity School will be $5,380 per semester. Tuition increases in all other graduate and professional programs averaged about 5 percent.

Residence hall fees will range from $1,776 to $2,330 per semester, based on residence facility. Meal plans will range from $1,134 to $2,000 per semester, based on the plan selected.

Increases in residence hall fees reflect the market demand for on-campus housing and updating that has been done in residence facilities over the last two years, according to Harry B. Brock III, Samford’s vice president for business and financial affairs.

The university-wide technology fee will be $135 per semester for full-time students, and the campus life fee will be $155 per semester. Among the improvements covered by the campus life fee are public gathering spaces in the Beeson University Center and other campus locations, as well as campus recreation facilities.

“We always are aware of the economic impact that increases in costs have for our students and parents,” Brock said. “The trustees and administration are very cautious in their discussions to ensure that our increases reflect necessary operational needs and continue to provide the quality of education and services that our students expect.”

Brock also noted that Samford’s total cost continues to remain about 16 percent below the national average for private colleges and universities.

The complete fee schedule will be available by March 1 at http://www4.samford.edu/admin/bursar/.
