Previously an associate librarian at the library, Szurek will now manage all aspects of cataloging of the library's resources and review current and new policies and procedures to verify that they are still prevalent.
Szurek joined the Samford library faculty in 2003 as the cataloging/music librarian and was promoted to associate librarian in 2010. He has also taught music appreciation in Samford's School of the Arts for eight years.
Szurek, a Poland native, received a masters of arts in musicology from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and a master of science in information science from the University of Albany-SUNY.
"The library and institution are both pleased and fortunate to have in this position a professional of his caliber with a proven commitment to the Samford mission and community," said University Library Director Kimmetha Herndon.
