A record number of Samford University baseball players -- seven -- were selected in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft that concluded June 6.
Brandon Miller, who is leading the nation in home runs this season, was selected in the 4th round by the Washington Nationals. It was the highest draft selection ever by a Samford player.
Others selected in the draft were Charles Basford, Joseph Burns, Saxon Butler, Josh Martin, Lex Rutledge and Tyler Vanderheiden. All played key roles in Samford's 2012 Southern Conference championship season and first-ever NCAA postseason tournament appearance.
