Samford University has launched a new video newsmagazine that will focus on campus events and programs. “The Samford Chronicle” premiered Sept. 10.
Produced by the university’s office of communication, the “Chronicle” will be updated every 4-6 weeks during the academic year, according to Philip Poole, Samford’s executive director of communication. “The Samford Chronicle” is available through Samford’s website and will be used at various university events.
The first edition includes features on back-to-school events, fall sports seasons, Samford’s marching band and the university’s new central information center, The Hub. The videos are written and produced by Poole and Nathan Troost, Samford’s new media specialist. The host is Brad Radice, a 1999 Samford graduate and Birmingham-based sports reporter.
Poole said the videos are part of new marketing and branding initiatives that were launched earlier this year and follow the late August launch of an updated website and new logos. The hiring of Troost, a May graduate, opened the doors for additional video options, including the video magazine and video news stories.
"Our goal is to tell the Samford story in as many ways as possible," Poole said. "With these videos, we're following the adage 'a picture is worth a thousand words' because the Samford visual images are so important in shaping the image of who we are as a university."
